I can’t remember when or why this phrase popped into my head a few years ago, but God gave me this as a timely reminder: When in doubt, worship the Lord.
Hi Tiny Little Friends, it’s already September, just a few months of preparations before Christmas! The last post I wrote was about us living in the Ordinary season, from Pentecost to Advent, and that in that “Ordinary” our lives should not be ordinary. And yes, my life hasn’t been ordinary since that post came up. From new responsibilities as a good citizen of my country, a legal head of my household, adapting Bible study materials for children, to a step of faith in taking a Biblical Hebrew class for further ministry needs. etc. There were so many hiccups in the process and there are still doubts in the steps, but at the end of the day God reminded me: When in doubt, worship the Lord.
David wrote in Psalm 8, “The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” The skies do not get to choose like us, weren’t given the gift of free will, weren’t created out of dirt by the hands of God, and don’t have the breath of Him in their nostrils. But they declare the glory of God, the Maker.
Everything starts from the Lord, so it is natural for the universe to revolve around Him. What if we, the smallest part of this grand creation, instead of revolving around God, go round and round in our ideas of life and perfection, and anything else but God? Wouldn’t it make us lose our orbit and get stuck in the circle of darkness, away from Him?
Eve didn’t remember the word of God regarding the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil carefully. For God had commanded them not to eat from it, but Eve added by saying that God prohibited them even from touching it. Adam did not say anything about that, and the next answer from the snake brought them into doubt. Adam and Eve were doubting whether God’s word was true or not. And instead of going to Him, they went around their own thoughts and desires that led them to fall short of the glory of God.
We are all created with God’s gift of free will, but to be honest, I often forget to voluntarily use that gift to trust God or worship Him. Sometimes it takes a hard slap to make me remember that God is the centre of all aspects of life; that is worship. A. W. Tozer, in his book “The Pursuit of God,” says that by voluntarily exalting God, we are bringing ourselves to be conformed to Him. Isn’t it God’s word for us all to not be conformed by this world? Worship is a voluntary act, and our voluntary act of worship shouldn’t be just a mere expression. It should be the act of our desire to be drawn closer to the Lord as the centre of our universe.
The Christmas, aka the coming of Christ, is getting closer. The news of wars and disasters will come and so will the feeling of uncertainty. But how do we look forward to all the near and distant future? By keeping on worshipping the Lord. When in doubt, worship the Lord.
