Hi tiny little ones, happy weekday! Have you ever wondered why people say “Happy weekend!” but not “Happy weekday!”? Is it because most people are not happy during the week? Are you happy during your weekdays, like today?

The dichotomy between the two

Let’s say we’re happy on weekends because we’ll meet our church friends, engage in ministry and activity, serving God and others, things we don’t normally do during weekdays. Are you saying that your workdays are not ministry days, then?

One of the first commands God gave to mankind in the Garden of Eden was to work. This command was never changed or taken away even after Adam and Eve fell into sin (Gen 1:28). Adam and Eve worked not for food or money, but to fulfill the task God had given them. The Bible doesn’t mention how long they lived in the Garden of Eden before the couple met the sneaky snake, but it must have been for a while as they were familiar with the presence of the Lord in the garden (Gen 3:8). Adam and Eve worked within a fellowship with the Lord, their direct supervisor.

What about their weekends, or if want to say, Sabbath? How many Sabbaths did they spend in the Garden of Eden? We don’t know since the Bible offers no details on that. But one thing we know, they spent it with the Lord just as they did in the other days. Adam and Eve must have observed it with the Lord, as Genesis 2:3 says, “Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done.”

Adam and Eve worked their weekdays with the Lord and spent their weekends also with the Lord. Does this change after Jesus came to earth and gave His Holy Spirit? No, the same principle remains the same in the New Testament. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

There’s no distinction

So now, what shall we do? Shall we differentiate our work and joy based on days of work? To whom do you work on your weekdays and to whom do you happily spend your weekends? Shouldn’t it be for Christ who has died for you so that you could live in the life worthy of your salvation?

Beloved little ones of God, I’m not telling you to resign from your job but to invite you to take a moment and redefine your goal. We will all retire one day, if not from our current job, it is from this world. What we’ll do if there’s only one thing that never stops? Wouldn’t it be our worship? Jesus says in Matthew 18:18 that “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Are you tied up to your job, financial or social needs that you no longer work to fulfill God’s command?

Sin has entered the world and made mankind no longer work for the Lord but for themselves. But there’s a chance for us to redo it, to be created anew, to be renewed in Christ. That gives us a new meaning to life and to the work we are doing. “What should we eat and drink if we don’t work? What should we wear? What will people say about us?” Does it sound familiar? Yes, those are things the world seeks after, but your heavenly Father knows that you need them. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you,” Jesus said (Matt 6:31-33).

There’s more to live than just live differently on your weekdays and weekends. It is a life in the continuous relationship with God and please Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work (Col 1:10), to be His ambassador (2Cor 5:20), and do it all for the glory of God (1Cor 10:31). These are not only happen on weekends, but in our daily lives both weekdays and weekends; there’s no distinction.

Little ones, you are not alone in this. For our Lord Jesus Christ has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us on our way, therefore let us pray, “Dear heavenly Father, I’m sorry for spending my days far from You. The days I felt stressed and exhausted that I couldn’t feel Your love and presence around me. I’m sorry for not living it for You but for my own needs. I want to seek You first, glorify You in all I do. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
