I was feeling tired and going through my usual daily tasks without any excitement. There were a lot of things on my mind – failed plans, fears of things not getting done, and uncertain plans for the future, all related to ministry and personal life. It felt exhausting, but I had to keep going.
I started Monday with some rest, just like I normally would. In the evening, I joined in an online weekly prayer meeting with a group of friends. We were reading from Ephesians 5:8-16. As our leader read the verses, my eyes were drawn to verses 14 to 16, which read:
This is why it is said:
Ephesians 5:14-16
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Feeling called out by the verses, I chuckled when I read them in my head. Then, the second time I read, I laughed again, but this time I laughed at how great the Lord was in teaching me. It might sound normal when you see the line “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead,” but if you continue to the next verse, “Be careful, then, how you live,” you’d notice that the person God tells to be awake was not actually dead. This person appeared to be alive, but there was no life in him, like a zombie, much like myself.
I said earlier how my mind was obstructed by emotions and thoughts, causing my brain to cease functioning. I was essentially paralyzed, alive but dead. But those verses made me feel like the Lord was shouting at me, telling me to wake up. He is willing to shine on me, and all I need to do is be awake and live so that I can walk in His light.
Friends, I may not know you or the situation you are in. You might be stuck with the same routine that it exhausts you, getting worn out for suppressing your feelings and dreams, or feeling dead because despite your hard works things did not go the way you wanted. But the word of the Lord reminds us today to wake up from our death, and the light of Christ will shine on us so we could live and walk in Him.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
Psalm 119:105
a light on my path.
Thank you for reading this article, I hope you feel blessed as I do! I would be glad to hear your story about God and all His goodness. Let’s connect and walk on this journey together!
