God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear." And it was so.
Genesis 1:9
Are you familiar with the song Way Maker by Leeland? The song declares that our God is the way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, and light in the darkness. It is also one thing God reveals Himself about in the chronicle of the earth. God is the way Maker.
God is the Way Maker
God spoke of the water under the sky (remember that there were already waters under and above the expanse in day 2?) so that there will be a dry place. The angels were probably raising their eyebrows (if they do have) thinking what would God do by showing a dry place on earth, will He create water creatures? There’s none just yet. Ah, God was making a way for His plan. Because the next thing the universe heard was:
"Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and tress on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so.
Genesis 1:11
Oh, so that’s what the dry land was for! It’s for the trees that bear fruit to grow on the earth. Look how the LORD has made a plan and orderly work for it! He is not in a rush to fill the waters with new creatures as we might have thought, because He sees beyond the future and thinks far ahead of what our minds can grasp! This explains what the prophet Isaiah wrote in chapter 55, verses 8 and 9 of his book:
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways, declares the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are My ways higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts."
Not only did God create the plants, but He also established a system for them. By creating vegetation that produces fruits with seeds in them, we can understand how God prepared the way. God wanted the plants to cultivate, He made the way to sustain the lives of the creatures He was about to create. Knowing this fact encourages me to trust even more in God, and offer all my plans to Him as my act of worship.
God is the Provider
God does not create anything without a proper and complete, perfect plan. We could only see the beginning of His plans in how He now created the fruit plantation. We don’t know how long it took for the plants to grow, but one thing we do know is that God later gave these plants for humans and animals to eat. Do you believe all the fruits were ready when humans and animals were created? I do.
Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food. ” And it was so.
Genesis 1:29-30
Isn’t that amazing to see that God provides the basic needs of His creation even before they exist? Where God commands, He provides. Even in the New Testament when Jesus taught the disciples to pray, He put the daily bread as a prayer point. Still in the same passage, Jesus told them to seek God’s kingdom and any other things that the world seek will be given to us. Why don’t we put God’s kingdom and His righteousness as the most important thing today, and tomorrow, and the day after? Because we trust that God is the provider.
Thank you for reading this article, I hope you feel blessed as I do! I would be glad to hear your story about God and all His goodness. I am currently getting back on my track to write weekly post (hopefully more in the future). Let’s connect and so I could hear your story too about the goodness of God!
