The reason we worship affects much in how we worship.

Ronald Allen and Gordon Borror in their book Worship: Rediscovering the Missing Jewel talks about the word “worship” from its root in Anglo-Saxon “weorthscipe,” worth-ship. To worship the Lord is to say, declare, and proclaim that the Lord is worthy.

How do we know if God is worthy of worship? Why worship at all? No one can know another person’s thoughts except for that person’s own spirit. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:11, in the same way, no one can reveal to us the worthiness of God except His own Spirit. As it is written in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is breathed out by God.” The Bible gives us the reasons why we worship the Lord.

For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:11

The Scriptures provide us with insights into how the Lord operates in history. It helps us comprehend His actions in this era and instils confidence that He will continue to work in the future. The Bible acquaints us with God’s nature and His attributes such as love, mercy, and guidance.

Why do we worship? Because the Lord is worthy in all that He is.
